Dance is part of our soul and as a dance school in the North East we love to dance but also to watch great dance performances and other dance events, whether we are performing with our dance students or seeing others dance. Here is a quick round up of some of the most exciting dance events coming to our region in 2019!

Strictly the Professionals

Strictly has long been a TV favourite and it is wonderful to see how much families across the UK and especially in the North East engage with this hit BBC Show. The professional dancers are simply amazing, teaching the celebrities new routines each week and then putting on some amazing dance routines of their own, often blending not only ballroom but also modern dance aspects. You can see Strictly Come Dancing The Professionals, and their own show that is touring the UK in Sunderland this spring!

The Nutcracker by The English Youth Ballet

The Nutcracker (recently brought to the big screen by Disney) is being performed by the talented team of the English Youth Ballet at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House this July. A classic ballet performed by around 100 young dancers is a great opportunity to showcase young ballet talent and see a new interpretation of this well-loved ballet.

Knot – Nikki & JD

If you love seeing acrobatics and dance combine, then this is the performance you should try and see. Performed at Dance City this summer, this blends movement, dance, acrobatics and storytelling to tell the story of love and how to make it work.

Matthew Bourne’s Romeo & Juliet

Another classic ballet reimagined by expert choreographer Matthew Bourne. Romeo and Juliet is being performed at the Theatre Royal in October and is a great opportunity to see how a classic ballet can be reimagined for a modern audience.

The West End Bhangra Musical

For those that love music and dance and want to see something a little different the The Bhangra musical is for you. Celebrating Indian music and dance like never before you can see this amazing and diverse show at the Theatre Royal in June.

Bolshoi Ballet on Screen

If you want to watch some of the best ballet companies but prefer to watch them on screen or can’t get to see them live, then going to the Tyneside Cinema to see the Bolshoi perform some of their best live over satellite is for you. Watching on a big screen but live makes this an event you don’t wat to miss and if you were going to see one, we would recommend Giselle.

Local Dance Performances

If you love to dance and want an opportunity to perform then joining The Jade Harrison School of Dance is a great option. From letting the students perform in their own shows and give them the opportunity to audition for local and national organisations. The opportunities to learn and love dance, and the opportunity to perform is a great reason to join our dance school.
